About us
At ECL Maldon Learning Disabilities Day Centre we have built great links and relationships in our neighbourhood to enable you to be involved in the local community. We are able to offer a service that is tailored to you and the goals you wish to achieve; whether that be to attend a college course, participate in a local voluntary group, or even work towards getting a job.
We are just a 2 minute walk from Maldon town centre, where we frequently visit the many cafes, pubs, and restaurants it has to offer.
While enjoying a drink or snack we also take the opportunity to practise reading the menus, communicating our orders, handling money, and socialising with each other.
The day centre is situated next to the local library, where we can support you to participate in ACL education courses and gain qualifications in areas such as cooking for independence, drama, health and wellbeing, and digital skills.
We are only a short distance from the lovely Maldon promenade where there is plenty of activities on offer, including nature walks which form part of our daily exercise and of course, enjoying a cheeky ice-cream as a reward!
If we want to get further afield, there are many nearby bus routes giving us easy access to Chelmsford and Witham.
Our customers help us to devise a full weekly programme of activities.
As well as having fun, we endeavour to link activities to outcomes that are meaningful to you; such as gaining important life skills, increasing your knowledge of the world around us, and improving your physical and mental wellbeing.
Our staff are fully trained to support you to learn new independent living skills as part of an ASDAN qualification.
Cooking is a favourite activity at ECL Maldon, which involves researching the recipes often using computers or tablets, creating shopping lists, shopping for ingredients and using weighing and measuring skills. Some of our customers follow a Slimming World diet, so as part of our cooking sessions we explore healthy eating options.
A chair-fit instructor runs fitness sessions at our centre to help maintain physical and mental wellbeing.
A local community group visits the centre weekly to keep our garden looking nice, which is an opportunity for the keen gardeners amongst us to get involved.
Bingo, karaoke, and quizzes are a much loved part of our activity programme and encourage numeracy skills, confidence building, and general knowledge.
We have a highly trained and experienced team of staff that support adults with a wide range of needs and age groups.
Our staff receive specialist training to support those with more complex health needs, profound and multiple learning disabilities, and autism, including:
- Dysphagia and modified diets
- Epilepsy and administering of seizure medication such as Buccal midazolam
- Moving and handling for customers who use wheelchairs and those requiring hoisting
- Communication awareness
- Sensory awareness
- Mental health awareness
- Behaviours that challenge
At ECL we work with you to identify your goals and put together a tailored plan unique to you. One of our team will assess the level of support you need, and prices will be based on the recommendations, along with how many sessions you would like to attend.
