For Mollie Wright, a career in care allows her to spend her days doing what she loves – helping people. As a CCA with ECL, Mollie feels like she’s hit the job jackpot, working with a fantastically friendly team who all share her goal of making a positive difference in the lives of customers across Essex.

I can’t believe I get to do this job that I’ve dreamt of!

Mollie left school unsure of exactly what she wanted to do next, but certain she wanted to help people. She embarked upon a health and social care course at college and was amazed by the range of roles her studies would open up to her. With a passion for learning and a desire to support those in need, she took a work experience placement at a neurological nursing home which ignited her interest in pursuing a career in care.

She says, “My hobbies have always been based around helping people and making a positive difference in their lives, so it was probably inevitable that I would end up working in this sector, but I’m really pleased I found my way to ECL. I came across the Community Care Assistant (CCA) listing when searching for careers in care online, and the job description and company benefits were exactly what I was looking for.”

Mollie applied straight away, and her enthusiasm was clear to the Local Business Managers leading her interview. So much so, that she was quickly offered the position. Mollie says, “I was over the moon when I was told I had been successful! Everyone was so kind, welcoming and approachable and I’ve never felt afraid to ask questions.”

To get her started, Mollie completed a week’s in-depth training and extended her learning online. She says, “The training I received helped me grow in confidence. I had the opportunity to shadow other CCAs who were very patient, taking things slowly to make sure I was able to follow what they were doing. I still feel that same level of support today.”

Even though she’s now fully immersed in her role, Mollie says she’s still learning. “I’ve learnt so much since I joined, and that extends beyond practical skills. I’ve gained a new sense of self-belief, and my communication skills have improved, too. I’m always looking at how I can develop my knowledge, making sure I’m providing the best care possible to my customers.”

Knowing she’s making people’s lives better is what Mollie highlights as being the best part of her job. “The best thing about my role is getting lovely feedback from customers and their families,” she says. “It makes me feel that working in care is definitely what I’m meant to do – I can’t believe I get to do this job that I’ve dreamt of!”

To anyone thinking about applying for a job in care with ECL, Mollie says, “100% do it! I know that anyone becoming a CCA here at ECL would fall in love with it, just like I have.”
