Care workers volunteer at food bank
The West Sussex North ECL team recently held their team building session and decided that they wished to give something back to the wider community. Their chosen charity was Crawley Open House; a support service for those living with the effects of homelessness, unemployment, loneliness, discrimination, or other forms of social exclusion.
Essex Cares Limited (ECL) provide the Community Reablement Service in West Sussex. The service supports people who are discharged from hospital for a short period to help them regain their independence and reduce the need for ongoing care.
The team spent time sorting out the food bank and organising all the donated food, meaning that the Open House staff could spend their time with customers who were in need.
Twenty large crates of food were successfully cleared and sorted, and a walk-in cupboard was organised with the team all pulling together to make it a success. Crawley House HR Manager Jane Nulty thanked ECL and commended the work achieved in such a short amount of time.
Natalie said it was a wonderful way to spend the day:
We were treated by ECL to an Afternoon Tea as a way of saying thank you for our efforts in the wider community, and had a great giggle as a team. It was brilliant and knowing we were helping others in more ways than our usual day to day role was pretty special.
