ECL launches Step to Home, a new temporary residential reablement service to ease hospital pressures
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic and pressures in the Health and Care system, ECL has been commissioned by Essex County Council to provide a new residential reablement style service named ‘Step 2 Home’ in a former care home in Howe Green, Sandon (5 miles outside of Chelmsford).
The new service will launch on Friday, 8 May and has been commissioned for an initial period of 13 weeks.
Step 2 Home will support the discharge of medically-fit patients out of Essex hospitals and into a reablement setting, where ECL staff will provide 24 hour support. The former care home in Howe Green is a purpose-built building with high quality facilities for the provision of care and support.
Step 2 Home has been designed to cater for those individuals who need a bit more support to get back on their feet and an extended hospital stay is no longer an option. I’m grateful that ECL shared our vision of getting Howe Green back up and running so that we could support the NHS and also provide high quality accommodation for those who need further support.
We are pleased to be involved in this initiative, which is a positive step towards relieving some of the pressure our health and care services in Essex are currently facing. We have already redeployed a team of experienced staff from our existing care services and plan to move more staff across as the level of referrals increases.
