ECL welcomes the Mayor of Chelmsford for a cream tea
Our Chelmsford day centre received a welcome visit from The Mayor of Chelmsford, Councillor Jude Deakin yesterday.
The Mayor, Councillor Jude Deakin visited the ECL Chelmsford Highfields Day Centre in Moulsham Street on Wednesday morning to experience the services that ECL provides to both older people and adults with a learning disability and/or autism in the area.
The Mayor joined a craft session with ECL customers and enjoyed a cream tea with them for elevenses. She also took part in a game of dominoes with the customers of the older people’s services as well as watching a game of indoor bowls.
The Mayor, Councillor Jude Deakin said: “It’s great to see first-hand the positive environment that ECL provides for both older people and people with a learning disability and/or autism. The Highfields centre is a real asset to the community and provides such valuable services. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing what they do and meeting with the people that benefit from using the day centre. It was great fun taking part in some of the day’s activities and chatting to everyone while we had our cream tea. I hope to be able to visit some of ECL’s other centres soon to see more of what they offer.”
ECL Highfields is a forward-thinking day centre. Staff create a warm and happy atmosphere and are specialists in supporting older people with sensory impairments, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
ECL’s Head of Inclusive Employment and Day Opportunities, Andrea Smith said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome The Mayor, Councillor Jude Deakin to our Highfields Day Centre. We are extremely proud of what we do here, and it was fantastic to be able to share it with such an important figure in our local community. Our customers have thoroughly enjoyed meeting The Mayor and sharing their activities with her. There has been a buzz of excitement among customers and staff since we announced that the visit was taking place. This excitement has added another level of cheer to the happy environment of the centre, it’s been wonderful to be a part of it. The customers have enjoyed taking part in the preparations for the visit and the special memories created by this occasion will have such a positive impact on them all for many months to come.”
