Our short-term home care service operates in Essex, London and West Sussex and is here to provide you with the support you need to regain confidence and independence in your own home following a spell of ill health, surgery or an accident.

About the service

Commissioned by local authorities and Health partners our short-term care services focus on supporting recovery, stabilisation and confidence building, ensuring that your needs are met and agreed outcomes are achieved.

To be eligible for the service you will have been assessed by a social care or health professional as needing a period of intensive support and located in Essex, London, or West Sussex. Take a look at our 'Outstanding' and 'Good' CQC ratings.

Who can make referrals?

Referrals are made by social care professionals in hospital or community settings.

Hospital referrals (community or acute) can be made via the ward (where a ward led approach exists) or by the Social Care Hospital Assessment Team or equivalent for your locality.

Community referrals can be made by GPs, Community Health Providers, Community Nurses, Community Social Work teams, Single Point of Referral (SPOR) or Single Point of Access (SPOA), whichever operates in your locality.

Meet the managers

Ruth Wingrove-Smith - Area Business Manager South Essex

Ruth oversees the delivery of care services across south east and south west Essex. She has been with ECL since 2007 and has an extensive background in care, starting out as a carer and working her way up CQC Registered Manager and Area Business Manager. Her career to date has given Ruth has a great understanding of both the frontline and operational aspects of care delivery making her a supportive, practical and fair team leader.

As a manager Ruth values visibility and approachability and works closely with her teams in both regions to create a positive and supportive environment where everyone consistently works with a clear focus on quality, safety and continuing improvement to maintain an outstanding service.

Donna Knight - Area Business Manager West Essex

Donna has an extensive background in social care, having started her career as a Community Care Assistant. She joined ECL in 2020 and as a Local Business Manager and progressed to become the CQC Registered Manager and Area Business Manager for West Essex. Donna works closely with the team to ensure excellent care; supporting colleagues to grow and develop, encouraging consistent improvement to guarantee the delivery of the highest standards of care.

Donna prides herself on being an approachable and supportive leader to enable her team to make a positive difference to the lives of the people they care for: meeting their needs, ensuring their safety and empowering them to be independent at home.

Tanya Mayes - Area Business Manager Mid Essex

Tanya is a dedicated care professional with over 15 years’ experience in social care leadership across Essex and Suffolk. Since joining ECL in 2011 she has worked in both frontline and management roles including managing three of ECL’s Day Centres for older people and people with learning disabilities and/or autism. Tanya transitioned to ECL Reablement in 2017 when she became a Local Business Manager supporting the highly successful ‘Step to Home’ project during COVID-19. She then progressed to Assistant Area Manager and now leads as an Area Business and CQC Registered Manager in the Mid Essex region

Tanya is a family oriented mother and grandmother who leads by example. She is passionate about supporting her team to succeed, making sure they feel valued, confident and empowered to deliver excellent care.

Tracy Doherty - Area Business Manager North Essex

Tracy has worked in social care for 26 years and has worked in both residential care and community care settings. She has a wealth of care experience and has been with ECL Reablement since its inception in 2011. Through continued professional development and hard work, Tracy has progressed from support worker to CQC Registered Manager and Area Business Manager

Tracy is responsible for ensuring the service to the highest standards and leads the team to deliver excellent, person-centred home care to those that need it in north Essex. A mother of four, Tracy is grandmother to 11 (soon to be 12) grandchildren and enjoys taking part in scent detection and main trailing activities with her beloved dog Roo.

Sue Cranford - Area Business Manager West Sussex

As CQC Registered Manager and Area Business Manager Sue leads ECL’s Community Reablement Service which ECL delivers in partnership with West Sussex County Council. She has an extensive background in health and social care, having worked in the sector for 33 years. Sue says she has ‘loved every minute’ of her time working in care; her career has spanned a variety of roles from home care assistant through to Area Business Manager.

Sue has been a Registered Manger with ECL for 13 years and prides herself on approachability, leading by example and bolstering morale among her team. She ensures the team maintain care excellence. Supporting her team to make a positive difference to the lives of the people they support through a consistent focus on quality, safety and promoting independence.
